In La Bresse, an outing with an instructor can be booked with ESF La Bresse (walks from 25 €, equipment included) or with the mountain leaders listed in the tourist office directory; at ESF Lac Blanc, the page offers an instructor for a half day or a full day. Snowshoes can be rented, among other places, at the Skishop on the snow front. Here is what the official pages say, formula by formula, with the points to confirm before booking.
ESF La Bresse outings (Hohneck area)
ESF La Bresse groups its outings under three pages: weekly programme, night outings and tailor-made walks. In our reading, these prices are for the 2026-2027 season: the pages do not state it, but their period selector offers weeks from 12 December 2026 to 27 March 2027. The equipment is shown as included throughout.
| Formula | Announced time slot | Displayed price |
|---|---|---|
| Morning walk | 9:00 to 12:00, Tuesday and/or Friday, or every day depending on weather conditions | from 25 € |
| Afternoon walk | 14:00 to 17:00, Tuesday and/or Friday, or every day depending on weather conditions | from 25 € |
| Snowshoes + bus to the ridges | 13:50 to 16:50, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday depending on weather conditions | from 30 € |
| Night snowshoeing | evening, every day or on Friday depending on the formula | from 25 €; meal as an optional extra on the “every day” formula |
| Tailor-made walk | morning or afternoon, every day depending on availability | from 50 € |
All departures are in front of the ESF La Bresse Hohneck office (La Bresse Hohneck bus stop for the bus formula). The weekly programme page specifies that when snow is insufficient, the outings are run on foot under the same conditions. Depending on weather and snow conditions, it says you can take your own vehicle or carpool to reach the ridges.
The tailor-made formula is described as a walk with “an instructor just for you”, who adapts to your level, with family or friends. For the night outing, the page mentions qualified instructors and an outing open to those who are not afraid of the dark; the optional meal is paid on site at the ferme auberge or the restaurant. For footwear, the FAQ lists après-ski boots, hiking shoes or waterproof shoes.
The pages list “Assurez-vous” among the items not included. In our reading, this is the insurance to check when booking. ESF La Bresse can be reached on 03 29 25 41 56 (88 route de Vologne).
At Lac Blanc: an instructor for a half day or a full day
The ESF Lac Blanc snowshoe and ski touring page presents outings with an instructor, “away from the marked slopes”, to discover the high Vosges and the glacial lakes, alone or in a small group. Its snowshoe block shows « from 180 € » for an instructor for a half day or a full day, with 160 € for 3 hours and 300 € for 6 hours, excluding snowshoe rental. The page does not state the season. A programme à la carte includes a DVA introduction, presented as training in the basic rules for off-piste outings.
Two checks are needed before relying on this offer. Our Lac Blanc resort guide recalls that lift operations there stop from the 2026-2027 season: the school’s page does not mention this change. Call the school on 03 89 71 33 11 to confirm the season, the price and the snowshoe rental.

Mountain leaders and guided outings
The tourist office’s snowshoe hiking page explains that several mountain leaders offer guided snowshoe hikes: wildlife observation, anecdotes about the Vosges forest, a safe introduction. Its directory of mountain leaders lists 21 entries, including activities that are not guided outings. Three listings explicitly mention snowshoes:
- Gambaladons, in La Bresse, two state-qualified mountain professionals who list snowshoe walks among their activities;
- the Bureau Montagne Hautes-Vosges, in La Bresse, which mentions the snowshoe outing;
- Cham’Vosges Aventures, in Cornimont, which mentions snowshoeing.
Labellemontagne states that with Gambaladons, every walk begins with a briefing and a hands-on introduction to the equipment. The listings publish no price: ask for the price, the duration, the starting point and whether snowshoes are provided when you book.
Renting snowshoes
The Labellemontagne rental page says the Skishop, on level -1 of the Slalom on the snow front (88 route de Vologne), offers skis, snowboards, snowshoes, sledges and helmets. It lists eight other rental shops, including Intersport, La Scierie, Bol d’Air Location and Skiset, without detailing their equipment: confirm they have snowshoes before making the trip. The resort’s snowshoe page specifies that for the Skishop, rental is offline only. Our guide to ski rental in La Bresse details these shops.
No guided outing: the marked Vologne Express route
Labellemontagne describes a marked walk of 1.8 km, +90 and -90 m of elevation, in 1h15, starting from the top of the Vologne Express chairlift (paid access) and reaching La Chaume de Schmargult, at 1182 m. The page shows its chairlift prices for 2025-2026: check the price for the current season before going up. For the five loops to do on your own, see our snowshoe loops around La Bresse.
