La Bresse Hohneck is the largest ski resort in the Vosges massif and one of the rare spots west of the Rhine to offer real high-altitude skiing (summit at 1,363 m). 30 trails, 21 km, 15 lifts, night skiing, snowpark, guided off-piste: enough to ski a full week without repeating yourself. We’ve skied here every winter for 10 years. Here’s what you need to know.

Bottom line: serious resort, proper blacks at the Hohneck, good value for a French resort, and above all logistics matter: staying 5 min from the lifts changes your whole week.

The 3 sectors

Le Hohneck (1,363 m): the real deal

Top of the domain, panoramic red trails along the ridges, guided off-piste for advanced skiers, view to the Alps on clear days. The Hohneck chairlift goes straight up, 8 min ride. Avoid stormy days (frequent closures in high wind).

La Vologne: the family heart

Mauselaine beginner zone (carpets + 2 greens), snowpark, slalom stadium, mountain restaurants. Chill vibe, morning sun. The base for learners.

Lispach: the hidden gem

Small linked domain, skiable with the main pass, empty on crowded weekends. When La Vologne saturates (February half-term), switch here for empty trails.

Our tips after 10 seasons

  • Avoid February weekends in the Mauselaine sector: switch to Lispach by 10am
  • Ski early (9am-12pm), lunch break, resume 2pm-4pm = zero queueing
  • Friday night ski: trails are freshly groomed, perfect snow
  • Hohneck off-piste: only with a local guide (ESF offers outings)
  • Typical week 4 people with kid lesson + family pass + rental + lodging: ~€2,200 budget
