Five viewpoints suggested by the Tourist Office
La Bresse High Vosges Tourist Office suggests five places with a view towards the west:
- the Hohneck summit, in La Bresse;
- Haut du Roc, in the Saulxures-sur-Moselotte area, reached on foot;
- Notre-Dame de la Paix, in Cornimont, reached on foot;
- the Haut du Tôt orientation table, reached on foot;
- Chèvre Roche, in Vagney, reached on foot.

Protect your eyes with the correct glasses
Do not look directly at the Sun without protection, even when 90.8% of the disc is covered. Wear eclipse glasses compliant with ISO 12312-2, specifically made for direct solar viewing. Check the marking, instructions and filter before use; discard glasses that are scratched, punctured or damaged.
Ordinary sunglasses, smoked glass and improvised filters do not provide adequate protection. Binoculars, telescopes and cameras require solar filters made for the instrument: eclipse glasses should not be placed over an eyepiece. The French Ministry of Health also advises adults to supervise children closely.
Plan for busy sites and a late return
Well-known viewpoints are likely to attract many visitors. Choose your location before 12 August, check the walking time and leave enough daylight for the return. Car sharing or observing near your accommodation can reduce local traffic.
