The main market takes place every Thursday and Saturday from 8am to 12:30pm, at Place du 8 Mai 1945, in Gérardmer town centre. It runs all year, with a fuller offering during the tourist season. You’ll find the classic stalls of a Vosges market: fruit and vegetables, meat, cheese, and a few stands selling clothing and assorted goods depending on the week.
It’s a town-centre market, a short walk from the lake and the shops on Rue Charles de Gaulle. Unlike the La Bresse market, which is held on a single square on Sundays, Gérardmer’s market benefits from a denser urban setting, surrounded by shops and cafés.
The additional summer markets
In July and August, two more markets join the weekly one:
- Summer craft market of the Vallée des Lacs producers: Place du Vieux Gérardmé, in front of the church, on Thursdays and Saturdays from 9am to 12:30pm. Local producers and artisans set up here alongside the town centre’s food market.
- Craft and makers’ market: Square Briffaut, on Friday evenings from 5pm to 9pm, organised by the Près de chez vous association. This one includes concerts, a drinks stand and food, for a livelier atmosphere than the morning market.
These seasonal markets don’t replace the weekly market at Place du 8 Mai 1945: they run alongside it during summer. Exact days and hours can vary from week to week: the Gérardmer Tourist Office agenda is the place to confirm a specific date before heading out.
What you’ll find there
The weekly market remains, above all, a town-centre food market. The producers present vary with the seasons, but you’ll regularly find:
- Seasonal fruit and vegetables, often regionally grown
- Vosges farmhouse cheeses, munster and tommes depending on the producers present
- Meat and charcuterie, including smoked cured meats in the Vosges tradition
- Honey and jams from local producers
- Clothing, goods and small haberdashery, at a few non-food stalls
The exact range depends on which producers sign up each week: it can vary more than at La Bresse, where the market stays more tightly focused on farmhouse produce.
Parking and getting to the market
The market occupies Place du 8 Mai 1945 on Thursday and Saturday mornings, which limits parking on the square itself while the stalls are being set up. Gérardmer town centre has several public car parks nearby, plus spaces along the lake quays a short walk away. During peak summer season, tourist traffic in the town centre and around the lake makes parking trickier: it’s best to arrive early, before 9am or 10am, for a proper choice of producers and a parking spot close by.
For the Gérardmer Hautes Vosges Community Tourist Office, at 4 Place des Déportés, opening hours vary by season: check with them directly if there’s any doubt about a seasonal market.
Gérardmer market or La Bresse market?
The two markets serve different needs. The one in La Bresse runs on Sunday mornings, at Place du Champtel, with a village feel on a human scale and a range focused on Vosges farmhouse produce. Gérardmer’s runs on Thursdays and Saturdays, right in the urban centre, with a wider range and extra craft markets in summer. For a stay in the Hautes-Vosges, the days don’t overlap: nothing stops you from doing both in the same week.

The weekly market has nothing to do with the Gérardmer Christmas market, held at Place du Vieux Gérardmé around the year-end holidays. The information on this page covers only the food and craft market held during the rest of the year.
Rounding out the day
A market morning in Gérardmer fits well into a bigger day out in the Hautes-Vosges. In the evening, the Apéros Électro at Quai du Locle liven up the lakeside in summer. The 14 August fireworks, however, were cancelled in 2026 by the town council because of the drought and the fire risk. The next Fête des Jonquilles is due in April 2028 according to the town council, and in winter, the Fantastic’Arts Festival draws film fans to the town’s screens.
