Nestled at 887 metres in a spectacular glacial cirque about 2 km south-east of the village of La Bresse, Lac des Corbeaux is probably the prettiest lake in the commune, and one of the most photogenic in the Vosges.

A glacial lake

A lake of glacial origin lying in a basin carved at the foot of sheer walls. Surface around 10 hectares, 600 m long by 200 m at its widest, maximum depth 27 metres, maximum volume close to 420,000 m³. Clear, cool water year-round.

The classic loop

  • Distance: 2 km
  • Elevation: 80 m
  • Duration: 45 min to 1h
  • Level: easy (sturdy shoes recommended)

The path runs right around the lake with several striking viewpoints, especially on the east side where the cliffs reflect in the water.

Access

From the centre of La Bresse, follow signs for “Lac des Corbeaux”. Paid parking in high season (around €4 per day). Restaurant and hotel at the lake edge to round the walk off with a Vosges dish.

Combine with

  • A hike up the Hohneck on the GR5
  • MTB descent along the forest trails
  • Fishing (permit required, AAPPMA de La Bresse)
  • An evening of Vosges tartiflette in the village

Best moment

Early morning in summer for the light and peace, in autumn for the ochre colours reflecting on the water, frozen in winter for a fairytale scene accessible in snowshoes.
