Munster’s Transhumance and Meat Pie Festival takes place on Sunday 13 September 2026, from 9 am to 6 pm. It marks the return of Vosges cattle to the valley with a farmers’ market, demonstrations, music, a farmhouse-style meal and a town-centre parade at 4 pm.
Admission to the festival is free. The walk with the herd, shuttles and meal have separate booking arrangements. We checked the details below on 14 July 2026.
Programme on 13 September 2026
The official tourism listing places the activities from 9 am to 6 pm on Place du Marché in Munster. A farmers’ market, cheesemaking, mini farm, dancing and Alpine horns run through the day. The herd is due through the streets at 4 pm.
Munster town council organises the event. Its booking page is the source to use for meal and shuttle places. Traffic arrangements or parts of the programme may change before September.
Walking with the herd
A 10 km, medium-difficulty walk accompanies the herd from the Schiessroth farm at Gaschney. It leaves at 10.30 am and is expected in Munster around 1 pm. Participants must reach the starting point beforehand.
A second walk leaves Munster station at 9.30 am, heads to Col du Sattel and joins the cattle descent with the Club Vosgien. Bring walking shoes, water and clothing for mountain weather. The herd sets the pace.
Shuttles from Munster station
Five free departures requiring a reservation are listed:
- two shuttles at 8.30 am;
- one at 9 am;
- two at 9.30 am.
They take participants to the transhumance start and are not an all-day shuttle service. Book through Munster town council and keep the confirmation.
Meal and meat pie festival
The meal includes valley meat pie, salad, cheese, iced vacherin and coffee. It cost €26 per person when checked, excluding drinks, with no children’s menu. Sittings are listed at 11.30 am and 1.15 pm. Booking is required, and groups above twenty people are asked for a deposit.

Travelling from La Bresse
