Munster’s Transhumance and Meat Pie Festival was scheduled for Sunday 13 September 2026, from 9 am to 6 pm. It marks the return of Vosges cattle to the valley with a farmers’ market, demonstrations, music, a farmhouse-style meal and a town-centre parade at 4 pm.

2027 edition: date to be announced
On 6 October 2026, neither the home page nor the news pages of the town of Munster, which organises the festival, mention a 2027 date. The Munster Valley tourist office agenda does not show one either. The Vosges Mountains site presents the tradition and transhumance festivals without a 2027 calendar.
The valley tourist office notes that herds go up to the high pastures in May and come back down in September, celebrated by village festivals. That general remark is not a date: do not infer the 2027 date from Sunday 13 September 2026. The town of Munster booking page, used in 2026 for shuttles and meals, now returns a 404.
2026 programme (archive)
The Colmar tourist office listing announced activities for 2026 from 9 am to 6 pm on Place du Marché in Munster: a farmers’ market, cheesemaking, a mini farm, dancing and Alpine horns. The herd was due through the streets at 4 pm. The town of Munster organised the event and handled shuttle and meal bookings. That listing now returns a 404.
The walk with the herd in 2026
A 10 km, medium-difficulty walk accompanied the herd from the Schiessroth farm at Gaschney. It was due to leave at 10.30 am and arrive in Munster around 1 pm, with participants reaching the starting point on their own.
A second walk left Munster station at 9.30 am, headed to Col du Sattel and joined the cattle descent with the Club Vosgien. For any walk with a herd, walking shoes, water and clothing for mountain weather remain necessary.
Shuttles from Munster station in 2026
Five free departures requiring a reservation were listed from the station:
- two shuttles at 8.30 am;
- one at 9 am;
- two at 9.30 am.
They took participants to the transhumance start and were not an all-day service. No shuttle is announced for 2027.
Meal and meat pie festival in 2026
The meal at the village hall included valley meat pie, salad, cheese, iced vacherin and coffee. The price noted in 2026 was €26 per person, excluding drinks, with no children’s menu and two sittings at 11.30 am and 1.15 pm. Booking was required, with a deposit for groups above twenty people. No price is published for 2027.
