After a day on the slopes or a snowshoe hike, nothing beats a sauna back at the chalet. More and more La Bresse rentals now offer one. Here’s how to choose well.

What to check

  • Type of sauna: traditional (more intense, more authentic) or infrared (gentler, more modern)
  • Number of seats: how many people can sit down at once
  • Heat-up time: 30 min for infrared, 45 to 60 min for traditional
  • Adjacent rest area: lounge, terrace, cold shower nearby
  • Running costs: usually included, check the contract

Who’s it for?

  • Sporty guests: faster muscle recovery, better sleep
  • Families: shared ritual, kids from age 6 with an adult
  • Couples: cosy break, restorative weekends

Good practice

  • Before: shower, no alcohol, hydrate
  • During: 10 to 15 min per round, listen to your body
  • Between rounds: cool break of 5 to 10 min, lukewarm shower
  • After: hydrate, rest lying down for 15 min, no intense sport

Frequently asked questions

Traditional sauna or infrared sauna?

The traditional (Finnish) sauna heats to 80-100°C with occasional bursts of humidity. Infrared heats the body directly at around 50-60°C, gentler, quicker to warm up and lower consumption.
