The 7 spa hotels to compare

1. La Cabane du Breuil, La Bresse (4-star)

This small chalet hotel is in La Bresse itself and has four large rooms. Its official website lists an indoor pool, sauna, rest areas and massages. It is the most compact property in this comparison, so check spa availability at the same time as the room.

Check La Cabane du Breuil’s official hotel and spa information.

2. Hôtel Les Vallées, La Bresse (4-star)

Les Vallées is a larger four-star hotel in La Bresse. Its wellness area has an 18 x 10 metre pool, sauna, hammam and hot tub and is open daily according to the hotel’s published schedule. Access is included for hotel and residence guests; the wellness area is not open to outside visitors, although massages can be booked separately.

Check the official Les Vallées wellness page.

3. Chalet Frère Joseph at Domaine de Montagne, Ventron (5-star)

The Chalet Frère Joseph became a five-star hotel in 2025. Its 900 m² Spa Forêt includes an 18-metre pool, two outdoor balneotherapy pools, saunas, a hammam, sensory showers, treatment rooms and a relaxation room. The property publishes options for non-resident day-spa guests; these have booking, age and group-size conditions. The family area is reserved for resident hotel guests accompanied by an adult.

Check Domaine de Montagne’s current spa access rules.

4. Grand Hôtel & Spa, Gérardmer (4-star)

The Grand Hôtel & Spa has two indoor pools and a heated outdoor summer pool, plus a sauna, hot tub and fitness room. Its separate 450 m² Les Chênes Blancs spa contains treatment rooms and a Heat Center with a hammam and sensory facilities. The spa also accepts outside customers, but pool access, Heat Center access and treatments are separate items in some packages.

Check the Grand Hôtel & Spa’s official English spa page.

5. Le Manoir au Lac, Gérardmer (4-star)

Le Manoir au Lac confirms four-star services and a wellness area with an indoor pool, sauna, hammam, massages and treatments. The hotel is in Gérardmer close to the lake. Earlier versions of this guide mentioned a Nordic pool; the hotel does not list one on its current official wellness information, so that claim has been removed.

Check Le Manoir au Lac’s official English website.

6. Les Bas Rupts, Gérardmer (4-star)

On the Route de La Bresse above Gérardmer, Les Bas Rupts has a heated indoor pool, sauna and hammam, plus an outdoor pool in summer. The hotel states that this relaxation area is reserved for overnight guests; treatments are available by separate appointment. Its official website announced the hotel’s reopening on 1 July 2026, so check live availability rather than relying on an old directory listing.

Check the current Les Bas Rupts facilities and access information.

7. La Cheneaudière, Colroy-la-Roche (5-star)

This five-star Relais & Châteaux property is in Colroy-la-Roche, on the Alsatian side of the Vosges. Its 2,500 m² Nature-Spa spans three floors and includes two indoor pools, heated outdoor water areas, a Nordic bath, saunas, a hammam-tepidarium and a seasonal natural pool. Day-spa bookings are available. Accompanied children can access the family pool, while the wider Nature-Spa is restricted to ages 15 and over.

Check La Cheneaudiere’s official Nature-Spa page.

Which one fits your stay?

  • To stay in La Bresse: compare La Cabane du Breuil for a four-room chalet-hotel atmosphere with Les Vallées for a larger pool and broader hotel facilities.
  • For the widest spa choice: compare the 2,500 m² Nature-Spa at La Cheneaudière with the 900 m² Spa Forêt at Domaine de Montagne.
  • For a spa without an overnight stay: check the live day-spa offers at Domaine de Montagne, Grand Hôtel & Spa and La Cheneaudière.
  • For a hotel-guest-only wellness area: Les Vallées and Les Bas Rupts publish clear resident-access rules.
  • For Gérardmer: Grand Hôtel & Spa has the broadest published facility list; Le Manoir au Lac and Les Bas Rupts offer smaller hotel wellness areas.

What to check before booking

“Spa access” is not a standard package. Before entering your card details, verify:

  1. whether the quoted rate includes only the pool or the full spa circuit;
  2. whether a time slot must be reserved;
  3. the age rules for each pool, sauna or relaxation area;
  4. whether massages and treatments need to be booked before arrival;
  5. seasonal pool dates and planned maintenance closures;
  6. the direct-booking cancellation terms.

Prices change with dates, room type and package, so this guide deliberately avoids fixed nightly rates. Use the official booking engine for a like-for-like comparison.

Spa hotel or private-spa chalet?

A hotel is the logical choice if you want reception service, breakfast, a shared pool and bookable treatments. For more private time together, compare our La Bresse chalets, chalets with a spa or balneotherapy and chalets with a sauna.

Frequently asked questions

Are there spa hotels in La Bresse itself?

Yes. La Cabane du Breuil is a four-star chalet hotel with an indoor pool, sauna and massages. The four-star Hôtel Les Vallées has a pool, sauna, hammam and hot tub; its wellness area is included for hotel and residence guests.

Is spa access included in the room rate?

It depends on the hotel and the rate. Les Vallées explicitly includes its wellness area for resident guests, while other hotels distinguish between pools, spa circuits and treatments. Check the inclusions on the hotel's official booking page before paying.

Can I book a day spa without staying overnight?

Some properties accept non-residents. Domaine de Montagne, Grand Hôtel & Spa and La Cheneaudière publish day-spa or external-customer options. Booking, age limits and time slots apply. Les Vallées does not open its wellness area to outside guests, although massages can be booked separately.

Which spa hotel near La Bresse is suitable for families?

Rules differ by property and by spa zone. Domaine de Montagne reserves its family area for resident guests accompanied by an adult. At La Cheneaudière, accompanied children may use the family pool, but the wider Nature-Spa is for guests aged 15 and over. Always confirm the current age and time-slot rules.

Should I choose a spa hotel or a chalet with a private spa?

Choose a hotel for service, shared facilities and bookable treatments. A chalet with a private sauna, hot tub or Nordic bath offers more privacy and can suit families or groups who want their own kitchen and living space.
