Choosing a campsite by lake rather than by village changes how you plan a stay in the Hautes Vosges: the actual distance to the water, whether swimming is allowed, the star rating and the rates vary considerably from one site to another around Xonrupt-Longemer, Granges-Aumontzey and, on the other side of the massif, Kruth. This comparison groups six campsites by body of water, using data checked with the operators, the local councils and the tourist offices.
Lac de Longemer: three campsites by the beach
The Domaine de Longemer, Xonrupt-Longemer’s municipal camping and caravan site, covers 6 hectares at 121 route de la Plage, 1.5 km from the village and a short walk from the lake. It offers 185 pitches of 80 to 100 m², with electricity and wifi, open year-round. On site: free kayak loan, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi, plus a pool open in the summer season. It is the campsite whose name is most searched for in the valley.
Les Jonquilles, a 3-star nature campsite with no mobile homes at 2552 route du Lac, sits right on the edge of Lac de Longemer. Open from April to October, it has a mini-market, a bar-snack and a hiking trail directly opposite the entrance. Allow 10 minutes by road to Gérardmer and 10 km to reach the col de la Schlucht.
Verte Vallée, a 4-star site at 4092 route du Lac, sits 300 m from Lac de Longemer and 10 minutes from Gérardmer, inside the Parc naturel régional des Ballons des Vosges. The site has 130 pitches and a heated indoor pool, open from 3 April to 20 September 2026. The operator does not publish opening dates for the campsite itself: ask before booking.
Vologne Valley: a campsite along the river
La Vologne, a 2-star site, sits at 3030 route de Retournemer in Xonrupt-Longemer, at 750 m altitude and less than 500 m from Lac de Longemer. The site, crossed by the river of the same name, has around a hundred flat pitches, split between shade and sun, and around ten walks starting from the site itself. It suits anyone who prefers sleeping near running water rather than right at the lake itself, a little away from the summer bustle around the lake.
The Sténiole ponds, in Granges-Aumontzey
A change of village and of logic here: La Sténiole, a 4-star site, is located in Granges-Aumontzey, at 730 m altitude and 7 km from Gérardmer. The 7-hectare site borders two ponds, one reserved for fishing, the other for swimming with a water play course. It has 122 pitches, all with electricity, rental accommodation (mobile homes, glamping, studios) and two charging points for electric vehicles. Open from 3 April to 1 November 2026, with a heated indoor pool open every day over that period. Pitches are sold as a package including vehicle and electricity, in Confort or Premium format: the 2026 rate table is published on the campsite’s website. The water slide, the restaurant and the pizzeria only open in July and August.
On the other side of the massif: le Schlossberg and Lac de Kruth-Wildenstein
For those widening the search beyond the Longemer valley, le Schlossberg, rue du Bourbach in Kruth (68), sits in the Thur valley, 2 minutes from Lac de Kruth-Wildenstein and at the foot of the Grand Ventron nature reserve. Rated 3 stars and open from 3 April to 5 October 2026, it charges à la carte across five rate periods: 9 to 12 euros per pitch, 5.50 to 8 euros per adult, 4 to 5 euros per child aged 2 to 10 and 2 euros per pet, plus a tourist tax of 0.66 euros per night and per adult and an energy contribution of 0.95 euros per night; the full rate table is published on the campsite’s website. Each pitch has a 6A electricity supply and the entrance gate closes automatically between 11pm and 7am. This option, reachable from La Bresse via the col de Bramont, pairs well with a camping week in La Bresse or a stop at the domaine de Lispach for those alternating between the two sides of the massif.

Choosing by lake rather than by village means deciding first what you want to do with the water (swim, paddle, fish or simply look at it from the shore) before settling on an address. As at lac de Blanchemer, where swimming is banned, as are camping and fires, not every body of water in the Vosges serves the same purpose: check swimming conditions directly with the campsite before booking a full week.
