The Hautes-Vosges greenway links Cornimont to Remiremont over 56 km of pure cycling pleasure. Flat, safe, dotted with gems: here is the full guide to plan it.

The route

The path follows the former Cornimont-Remiremont railway, decommissioned in the 1980s and reborn as a greenway. Industrial heritage turned into a soft route:

  • Start in Cornimont (altitude 540 m)
  • Saulxures-sur-Moselotte, lively midway point
  • Remiremont terminus (altitude 400 m)
  • Gradient: 1 to 2 percent maximum, no kicks

The recent Bussang extension adds 11 km eastward, through wilder landscapes.

5 not-to-miss highlights

Along the way:

  • Cornimont: former station reborn, shaded start
  • Heritage House in Saulxures: cultural pause
  • Trouche tunnel: 240 m lit tunnel, unique atmosphere
  • Vologne viaduct: engineering work, photo stop
  • Arrival in Remiremont: historic centre, cafés, abbey

Several picnic areas and water points are spaced every 5 to 8 km.

Rentals and services

Rentals are available at strategic points:

  • La Bresse: hybrids, e-bikes, child trailers
  • Cornimont: free returns in several towns
  • Remiremont: long-term rental system
  • Repairs: workshops in Cornimont and Remiremont

Expect 18 to 25 euros a day for a hybrid, 35 to 45 euros for an e-bike.

Good to know

  • Shared route with pedestrians: bell mandatory
  • Shaded rest areas every 5 to 8 km
  • Restaurants in every village along the way
  • Train + bike: the Remiremont-Épinal SNCF line accepts bikes, ideal for loops
  • Season: rideable April to November, watch out for ice in winter

Practical tips

  • Set off early in summer: the route is shaded but heat builds quickly
  • Repair kit even on a safe route: punctures happen
  • Water and snacks: not all villages are directly on the path
  • Family pace: allow 6 to 7 hours with playtime and bathing breaks
  • Photo of the map at the start or downloaded GPX

Combine with other routes

The Hautes-Vosges greenway sits within a wider network:

  • EuroVelo 6 accessible via Épinal for long-distance riders
  • MTB loops from La Bresse to add elevation
  • Voie Bleue Moselle-Saône extending toward Nancy

Plan your bike trip

To enjoy the greenway fully, drop your bags in a chalet in La Bresse or Cornimont. Ride by day, return to the terrace and a Vosges aperitif.
